Summary:
- Destination BC and BCTCRI partners have launched the 2026 Tourism Climate Adaptation and Environmental Sustainability Business Survey to strengthen climate-ready and sustainable tourism across British Columbia.
- Open to all BC tourism businesses, the short (5–10 minute) survey gathers data on climate preparedness, environmental sustainability practices, and related investments to support provincial, regional, and sector insights.
Destination BC, in collaboration with BC Tourism Climate Resiliency Initiative (BCTCRI) partners, is inviting tourism businesses across the province to participate in the second Tourism Climate Adaptation and Environmental Sustainability Business Survey. The goal of the 2026 survey is to build on last year’s findings and strengthen understanding of sustainability practices and climate preparedness within BC’s tourism industry.
Informed by the BCTCRI’s foundational work to develop a sustainability and climate adaptation data framework, the survey aims to gather information directly from tourism businesses on their climate risk preparedness, environmental sustainability practices, and related investments. This data will support year-over-year provincial data, enabling comparison to last year’s baseline and helping monitor change and progress over time.
Who the Survey is For
The survey is open to all tourism businesses in British Columbia that provide paid services to travellers, including accommodations, food and beverage providers, transportation services, attractions, and other tourism-related businesses. Participation from a broad range of businesses is encouraged to support region-, community-, and sector-specific reporting and to ensure a comprehensive snapshot of the industry.
Survey Timeline
The survey launched on Thursday, February 19, 2026, and is open for a limited time of two weeks.
Time Commitment
The survey takes approximately 5–10 minutes to complete and should only be completed by one person per business, either an owner or employee who is familiar with operational practices related to climate adaptation and environmental sustainability.

Survey Reporting
Once available, the 2026 findings will be shared in the following formats:
- Provincial Report: A comprehensive report summarizing key findings across the province will be developed, establishing a baseline understanding of sustainability and climate preparedness within BC’s tourism industry. This report will provide valuable insights to inform future strategies and initiatives.
- Regional and Community Reports: Where participation levels allow, customized reports will be created for specific regions and communities. These reports will enable businesses to benchmark their sustainability and climate adaptation efforts against their local and regional peers.
- Sector-Specific Insights: If a sufficient number of responses are received from various tourism sectors—such as accommodations, food and beverage, attractions, and transportation—the project team will provide tailored insights to help businesses understand trends and best practices within their specific sector.
- Public Dissemination: Aggregated, anonymized survey results will be made publicly available to support industry-wide collaboration and knowledge sharing around sustainability and climate adaptation.
All businesses that complete the survey will have the opportunity to receive the final report(s).
