Qatar’s tourism industry has seen a steady Three Percent growth in 2025, with international arrivals reaching new heights. This increase is attributed to the country’s ability to attract a diverse mix of travelers from key markets, including the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Europe, and other international regions. The surge in GCC visitors reflects Qatar’s strong regional ties and its appeal as a short-haul destination. Meanwhile, travelers from Europe have been drawn by Qatar’s blend of rich cultural heritage, modern infrastructure, and high-profile international events. Additionally, targeted marketing campaigns, strategic partnerships, and a robust tourism infrastructure have successfully expanded the country’s reach, drawing visitors from beyond traditional markets. Together, these efforts have positioned Qatar as a leading destination, boosting its appeal on the global tourism map in 2025.

Visitors from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries made up the largest share of arrivals at 36%, followed by Europeans at 26%, and travelers from Asia and Oceania at 22%. Meanwhile, visitors from the Americas and other Arab nations each contributed 7%, showcasing Qatar’s broad international appeal.

Strategic Accessibility Enhances Visitor Numbers

Qatar’s comprehensive multi-access approach has been central to this growth, making it easier for tourists to visit through a variety of travel options. A total of 57% of arrivals arrived by air, 33% by land, and 9% by sea, highlighting Qatar’s efficient infrastructure that ensures seamless entry for travelers worldwide.

The hospitality sector has mirrored this growth, with hotels seeing an average occupancy rate of 71%, a 2% increase from the same period in 2024. In addition, 5.23 million hotel nights were sold, marking a 7% increase compared to last year’s performance.

Tourism’s Contribution to Qatar’s Economy

Qatar’s tourism sector continues to play a vital role in the country’s economic growth. In 2024, the sector contributed QR55 billion to Qatar’s GDP, which accounted for 8% of the total economy—a 14% increase from the previous year. These results are aligned with the objectives set forth in Qatar’s Tourism Strategy 2030, which aims to expand the sector’s contribution to 10-12% of GDP in the coming years.

High-Impact Campaigns and Major Events Propel Growth

Visit Qatar, the country’s tourism promotional body, has played a key role in driving this impressive growth. Several high-profile marketing campaigns helped attract visitors from key target markets. Notable initiatives, such as the “Moments Made for You” campaign, highlighted Qatar’s summer offerings to visitors from the GCC and other regions. A promotional video featuring English footballer David Beckham emphasized Qatar’s blend of cultural heritage, modern attractions, and natural landscapes.

In addition to campaigns, Qatar hosted a series of successful events, including the Qatar Toy Festival, which welcomed more than 130,000 visitors—a 12% increase compared to the previous edition. Other events that boosted tourism included the Doha Jewellery and Watches Exhibition, Ras Abrouq, Sealine Season, and the Qatar International Food Festival. Unique initiatives like Scoop on the Sea and whale shark tours further enhanced the country’s appeal.

Looking Ahead: Major Events and Future Initiatives in 2025

The second half of 2025 promises more exciting developments for Qatar’s tourism sector. The 2025/2026 cruise season will kick off in November, building on the success of the previous season, which saw 87 cruise ships dock in Qatar, marking a 19% increase, and welcomed over 360,000 visitors.

Qatar will also host several high-profile events, including the inaugural T100 Triathlon World Championship finals in partnership with the Professional Triathletes Organisation. Additionally, the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025, F1 Qatar Airways Qatar Grand Prix 2025, and the third Qatar Tourism Awards are expected to attract large numbers of visitors. The unveiling of the Michelin Guide Doha 2026 is another major milestone for the country’s tourism sector.
